Information Retrieval CENG 555

FALL 2014/2015

Course Overview

Information Retrieval (IR) and its most popular form search engines has been an integral part of our lives. Thus, Introducing the theories and implementation details of search engines is both crucial and rewarding. The mathematical model using vectors and probabilities is a good example of modeling a practical problem with mathematics. Normally a search engine deals with vast amount of information. For this reason IR algorithms must be scalable and optimized in terms of running and storage complexity. Design of such algorithms is valuable for computer engineer candidates.
